This is a guide to this process, additional information about AVG 2012 can be found in the documentation, or in other FAQ topics.

Important note:
Stations that are to be upgraded to AVG 2012 will be restarted during the remote installation. Please see FAQ 12320 for more details.

You will not be able to manage stations with AVG 9.0 using AVG Remote Administration 2012. Those stations will be listed in the Network Installer in the Admin Console, ready to be upgraded to AVG 2012. See section III below.

Installation of AVG 2012 Remote Administration

Download the latest AVG Remote Administration 2012 installation file.

Please select the AVG Edition based on your licence.

Download the file AVG Admin 2012 for Windows.

Install the AVG Remote Administration 2012

Your current AVG Licence Number will be required during the installation.

After the installation, follow the AVG Admin Server Deployment Wizard.

When asked, perform a backup of the current database

Finish the deployment wizard. It will automatically convert the database.

The AVG Admin Server will be started after the wizard.

The Admin Server listens on port 4158 by default - the same port as Admin Server 2011 - this means that old AVG 2011 installations will be able to communicate with the new AVG Admin Server (AVG 2012).

Install AVG 2012 onto the stations using the AVG Network Installer Wizard

Run the AVG Network Installer Wizard from the Start menu (Click on Start -> (All) Programs -> AVG 2012 Remote Administration.)

Follow the wizard and configure the options according to your needs.

The default settings are sufficient in most cases and will ensure that the stations will connect to AVG Remote Administration 2012 after the installation.

The AVG 2012 installation file will be required in the process:

If you are installing AVG on workstations only, you can use the automatically downloaded installation package. In case the AVG Network Installer Wizard fails to download it automatically, please download the appropriate package from our website (the filename starts with letters avg_ipw).

If you also wish to install AVG on a server, please note that due to different components, it is necessary to install AVG (on the server) separately with a special installation package (the filename starts with the letters avg_msw), which is also available in the Downloads section.

Select the method to find the stations that are to be upgraded in the Network Scanning step.

When the stations are found, select the stations that you wish to install AVG 2012 on and click on Install.

Proceed with the installation.

Install AVG 2012 onto the AVG 9.0 stations that were previously connected to Remote Administration

Open AVG Admin Console from the Start menu (Click on Start -> (All) Programs -> AVG 2012 Remote Administration.)

In the left hand pane, select Network Installer.

On the right, you will see a list of stations with AVG 9.0 installed. Select the ones you want to upgrade. (You can select all of them with CTRL+A).

Right click selected stations and choose Install selected stations.

Follow the remote installation wizard (see section II. above)

If you have any questions regarding your license renewal, please contact AVG Customer Services .
AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins Installing AVG 2012 over AVG 2011, 9.0 or 8.5 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=373 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=373 Mon, 12 Sep 2011 14:00:00 GMT
Recently we released new versions of AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Internet Security, AVG 2012. Safe Search extension is not compatible with Firefox 6.0

Mozilla has released their new Firefox 6.0 browser for public. Unfortunately, the AVG Safe Search extension is not compatible with this browser version yet. We found some glitches during our internal testing and developers are working on rectifying them. A new AVG program update will be released as soon the support is fully implemented. You may also notice some other Firefox extensions are not compatible as the Firefox development cycle is quite rapid.

Please rest assured you are still protected by AVG even if you have already upgraded to Firefox 6.0. The AVG Active Surf Shield component is still checking all data and will prevent you from accessing malicious content even though search results verdict icons are not available temporarily.

2. Lenovo Access Connections

An AVG user noticed higher CPU load on his Lenovo laptop. Log file analysis determined that the C:\Users\Public\Documents\AccConnAdvanced.html is being scanned often by the Resident Shield as it is very frequently updated (several times per second). Such scanning indeed requires considerable amount of CPU processing time which results in slowing down the system. It seems that this file is used for logging network activity by the Access Connections utility.

In case you have noticed a system slowdown on your Lenovo computer, we recommend creating an exception on the above mentioned file in AVG Resident Shield configuration as follows:

- Open the AVG user interface and press F8.

- Select Resident Shield -> Excluded Items.

- Click the Add File button on the right side of the window.

- Browse through your file system to the above mentioned file and select it.

- Older versions of the Access Connections utility stored their logs on alternate locations, please check this and this AVG Free Forum posts for more information, in case the file cannot be found.

- Click OK to save all changes.

Should you need further guidance, please contact AVG technical support.

3. AVG Secure Search for images does not respect user's location

One of AVG Forum visitors noticed that when using AVG Secure Search to search for Images as indicated below, a Czech result page is displayed:

Web search results are not affected. This issue has been reported to developers for investigation. Please use alternate image search engine until the issue is rectified (e.g. the Google image search).

Please accept our apology for the inconvenience.

4. AVG Mobilation Mobile Control Panel unavailable

We have noticed a glitch within AVG Mobilation Mobile Control Panel thanks to user's report on Thursday. We have immediately fixed the problem and the Mobile control panel is fully functional again.

Should you face any challenge while using the Mobile Control Panel, please contact AVG technical support.

5. virus@avg.com was temporarily unreachable

We have reported the virus@avg.com not available when sending a message from Gmail accounts. The e-mail address was unreachable from Thursday 25th 10 :00 AM through Friday 26th 11:00 AM GMT. The issue has been rectified and our specialised virus analysts' e-mail address is fully available at the moment.

Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins New ADRD Trojan Threat to Android Mobile Phones http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=335 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=335 Tue, 15 Feb 2011 13:00:00 GMT
Mobile security threat alert

AVG Mobile Solutions has alerted smartphone users to a potentially hazardous new Trojan targeting Android devices. The "ADRD" Trojan targets Android users and is part of a Chinese multi-platform network Xiaxia.com. AVG report that a similar threat from the same botnet is targeting other smartphone platforms such as Symbian S60.

As it infects a device, the ADRD Trojan registers itself to sensors of network activity, alarms and various other OS events. Once fully installed, the Trojan feeds back the phone's unique IMEI/IMSI number, with each infected smartphone becoming part of the botnet.

No further details are available at this stage however, users of AVG's free Android antivirus product ANTIVIRUSFree are already protected through its cloud-based detection algorithms and do not need an update to their software.

More information on the ADRD will follow, but for information on downloading AVG's free antivirus app for Android phones please visit the AVG (AU/NZ) web site.
AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins Digging up Worms: A Darker Side to Social Networks http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=332 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=332 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 13:00:00 GMT
AVG Threat Labs gives users the ability to examine exactly what threats are lurking out there on the web. By simply entering a web site's URL, anyone can get an instant report detailing the site's threat history and therefore its trustworthiness.

If you have already used this great free tool then you'll have seen the initial site rating report i.e. "POPULAR", "VERY POPULAR", "TOP SITE" - as well as the information on the location of their server, the number of threats found and the number of compromised web pages.

Where live threats lurk

You may be surprised to learn that worms (the nasty computer kind) are finding ways to spread quickly across both Facebook, Twitter and beyond. The Facebook Worm (1403) spreads by using Facebook wall posts and status updates that harbour a link that, if clicked, will infect a user's system with spam, malware and/or a phishing attack.

Here are the signs of potential danger:

The URL is auto-shortened to hide its full length and origin and is linking to a site external to Facebook

The post uses the acronym lmao – "laughing my arse off" – but it is a generic post and not directed to you personally. This should warn you of potential danger.

The subject matter offers humour and funny images – a common "lure" for spam.

As with most things, common sense is the best tool in staying safe while social networking online.

AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins Why is the download so small? http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=249 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=249 Thu, 22 Apr 2010 14:00:00 GMT
AVG explains how the AVG Download Manager is used to ensure you get the latest file available in the smallest package possible.

Melbourne, 23 April 2010 – AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd is often asked about the size of the download files on its web site and on portals such as CNET's download.com. The reason for the small size is that it launches a small intelligent installer, the AVG Download Manager, which gives the following benefits:

Speed and Efficiency - Rather than downloading the all encompassing installation file, the AVG Download Manager allows us to provide only the components you require during the installation process. So selecting English means we only send you the files required for this language rather than you downloading all the languages that you don't need. This cuts the download size down significantly and brings you the benefit of speed and space.

Latest Protection - The second reason is a little more complex! If we deliver you the entire product installation package, then we have to create it at a point in time. The program and anti-malware files are based on a creation date and as you know we update our product several times a day to give you the best protection. Once installed the product would then require an update to bring it up to the install date protection level, causing a further step and additional time to install. Because the small installer is dynamic and customised to your configuration, you download only the latest product and anti-malware protection. Sometimes the version or build number posted on a download portal description might not reflect the product being downloaded and installed; don't be concerned by this, it just means we are ahead of the description update which may be manual. Less to download and no need to update after installation, a win-win situation!

In summary the AVG Download Manager is there to give you a better user experience, something we are always trying to improve on.
AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins Making your USB memory stick safe! http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=221 http://www.avg.com.au/index.cfm?section=support&action=tech_bulletins&feature=221 Tue, 09 Feb 2010 13:00:00 GMT
Melbourne, 10 February 2010 - It's not uncommon for malware to be introduced to home or business PCs via the use of a memory stick.

What should you do when introducing a memory stick to your computer? You have 2 options:

1. Make checking of removable devices automatic with AVG...

Open the AVG user interface

Select "Tools" from the menu bar at the top and open "Advanced Settings"

On the left menu click on "Scans" and then "Removable Device Scan"

Enable the "Removable Device Scan"

2. Run an AVG scan manually before accessing any of the files. To do this...

Open my computer

Insert the memory stick

Right click on it

Scan with AVG

As with any file transfer activity be smart, be aware, be careful, and you can stay safe.
AVG (AU/NZ) Technical Bulletins
